Re: American Capitalism Is Destroying Itself

Why live in a car? Surely there is lots of vacant land about, ready to be

Not as much as you might think and any 'land rush' (at least in the US) is in undesireable locations long distances from 'civilization' (i.e. hundreds of miles). Even, they say, land in the Amazon area is appreciating in value because of rapid development, slash-and-burn, etc. I think most land if not owned, then there is some dominion over by the govt. So, occupation of that land might be illegal in some way. "Tent cities" have sprung up, and (I don't know where you are) there was a kind of "RV city" somewhere in the US southwest some two decades ago where people just started parking their RVs out in the country and lived there, rent-free and tax-free for years, and if there were any laws or regulations, then they were not enforced. But, it was hot, humid, no facilities (electricity, etc). However, it was possible to live by driving for provisions, come back, use the RV kitchen to cook, and sit around. I had the sense that it was mostly retirees that lived there.

Perhaps the issue is not vacant land, but vacant expression - you just lack
the guts!

Dear out of a job PhD's, grab a bit of paper, a stub of pencil, and GET
WORKING.
Innovate, use the library, use the internet, start a business!

I agree.

Are you bereft of ideas? then why seek a job in your chosen field?
- you DESERVE to be out of a job or to be installing garages.

Installing garages can make some money.

PS: Look at the life of Christopher Boyce (read or watch the Falcon and the
Snowman)
Then you will see what happen to Australia in the '70's and 80's.

I'm not sure what you are driving at. Could you explain further?

I used to think that left wing agents provocatueur destroyed Aussie
production capability, now I dunno. Some in the US seem to have had a hand
in bringing down quite a few of what were very staunch allies.

Lots of daffy things happen over time. Enemies become friends, friends become enemies, and even back again, again.

For who knows
what reason - perhaps the US couldn't handle the competition from allied
nations (your worst enemy is probably your best friend when jocking for
position on the team).

The animal pecking-order scramble is especially intense in the human species.

One thing for sure - modern capitalism sure as hell looks like communism
with all its centrally planned brutalism.

A very astute observation. Now, can anything be done about it?

Capitalist monopolies are feudal
in nature and sure as hell do not like truly free market forces.

Bravo!!!! Don't forget the cartels! And, another phenomenon which is taking place is 'accounting finaggling' (otherwise known as Enron/Andersen). Its still going on, but masquerading as legit bussiness practices.

At least the author is another American:

 Meet the Author

Perhaps car living will be the "Next Big Thing" to replace IT.
