The amphetamine use would go back to the previous doctor, though, not
the doctors in the hospital. I think the hospital doctors put her on
Depakeen and Geodon, if I'm interpreting another of her posts correctly.

No, Kali, I'm not. I'm discussing only information V herself has posted

to these public forums. I have no other personal information about V,
and don't correspond with her outside the forums. If I did, and if I
had any confidential information, I would certainly respect her
privacy.

Please don't make accusations and condemnations unless/until you're
sure the person you're accusing is guilty of something.

I think we have a pretty good handle on the kind of information that
would be useful. However, we can only work with the information we're
given.

Some of the questions you raised would be irrelevent, anyway,
because--even if we were qualified--it would be impossible to diagnose
someone over the internet *in retrospect.* Mania and drug-induced
psychosis can look very similar, even to doctors. There is apparently
no evidence to suggest she is schizophrenic. She rejects the bipolar
diagnosis completely.

Some of the medications used to treat schizophrenia, mania, and
drug-induced psychosis are the same, but we can't prescribe them, and
she doesn't want them.

Right. And the details of her mental health are irrelevant to
the type of help she needs, even though a lot of ignorant people
are speculating about it; even calling for malpractice suits!
Sounds to me like all that can wait until she's safe somewhere

- unlike strangers on Usenet - be in a position to assess her
problems and provide real help.

No, my comments stand, only softened a bit by the fact that she,
herself, apparently has shared information in a bed of trolls.

I had an opinion about what I was seeing, and I voiced it.
That's all. I'm as powerless to help her as anyone else here is;
the difference is that I realize it, and I can deal with
helpless feelings without degenerating into irrelevant public
gossip and speculations about her condition and medications.
Sending money is a nice thought, if you know her. On the other
hand, it could be unwise. For everyone's sake, I hope it helps.

All points that have been made to V. You're not providing any *new*
information. Many of us agree with that, and have tried to steer her in

that direction, but she is making different choices at the moment, and
we have to respect that. Other people on this NG have a different POV,
and your attacking them creates trouble.

Some of the questions you raised would be irrelevent, anyway,
because--even if we were qualified--it would be impossible to diagnose
someone over the internet *in retrospect.*

Well, I know this, but it sure looked to me like this is exactly
what everyone was speculating about... amphetamine psychosis,
bipolar condition or not...

Speculating, not diagnosing. The point of the speculation is that we
are trying to see things from V's POV so that she *might* be willing to

get help. She does not accept the bipolar dx and is rejecting help, at
least in part, because of that dx.

Mania and drug-induced
psychosis can look very similar, even to doctors. There is apparently
no evidence to suggest she is schizophrenic.

See your comment above. Here you are evaluating her condition
yet again.

No, I'm responding to someone else's speculation. She has been treated
for ADD with Dexedrine and has recently been dx'd bipolar. She has
never, to my knowledge, been dx'd schizophrenic, even when apparently
psychotic. The points I made were based on factual evidence gleaned
from other posts (because I read *all* of them, not just a handful).

She rejects the bipolar
diagnosis completely.

And this means what?

That she refuses to take medication for bipolar disorder and refuses to

work with the doctors who gave her this diagnosis. The more the bipolar

dx is pushed on her, the less inclined she seems to be to accept it.
Therefore, the best course, imo, is for *us* to back off of that point.

Some of the medications used to treat schizophrenia, mania, and
drug-induced psychosis are the same, but we can't prescribe them, and
she doesn't want them.

How is this relevant? Did you miss my point, entirely?

No. YOU missed the point. The questions you were asking were irrelevent

to the NG because we can't diagnose or treat her problems. My point
was, regardless of the *cause* of the psychosis she apparently
experienced (which you claimed we needed to know the root cause of),
the medical treatment would include antipsychotics. Your point was
moot.

You might want to read all of the posts in all of the related threads
in order to get up to speed before offering advice. Just a suggestion.

You don't understand the dynamics of this group. I'm new here myself,
but not so new that I think the people you're referring to (for the
most part) are trolls. Many are her long-time friends, who may share
V's POV. If we don't respect that, we risk antagonizing not only the
poster, but also V. Would that be a positive outcome? There's a wide
range of opinions expressed here, some of which may not be seen as
helpful by some of us; however, condemning people does nothing but
inflame the situation.

I had an opinion about what I was seeing, and I voiced it.

You expressed your opinion without being aware of *any* of the salient
facts of the situation. You *started* by accusing *me* of spreading V's

personal information all over the internet, and suggested I have "no
shame," without any evidence to support your conclusion. In fact, I'm a

relative late-comer to this issue, and have only discussed what V,
herself, has publicly shared.

The points you've made have already been made over and over again by
people in this NG. You've added nothing new. In reality, the only thing

you've done is agitate, which is difficult to see as a helpful
contribution.

Look: her diagnosis, supposed addiction or psychosis, etc., is
irrelevant. Relevant, but not necessarily anyone's business is
this:

Is she employed? I take it she is not.

Is she disabled? Does she qualify for SSDI (retroactive, even)
or public assistance? She won't get any of it unless she seeks
help.

At some point, sending her money and reifying her fears about
seeking help from qualified professionals will make her more
helpless than she would seem to be already.

She is not a child, and she is not your child. She is an

Sigh. I thought we had a detente going here.

It sounds like V has *chosen* to check into Cornell, which I do think
is good to hear. It sounds like she's *decided* she wants to try to get

help from them. I don't see any indication of force. It appears she's
exercising free will. Do you read it differently?

It has never been my intention to "gossip" about V; however, since
she's declined to continue participating in this topic, I'm trying to
withdraw (although I seem to keep having to defend myself, for some
reason), because yes, parts of the thread are beginning to seem like
gossip, which does not appear to be helping V.

I've expressed my opinions, and they stand. I think the topic/thread
has gotten so long, and so involved that people have forgotten (or
never knew, as in Kali) who stood where.

In my heart, I believe everyone here wants the best for V, so all this
fighting makes me feel sad and tired. I hope this isn't the situation
she returns to.

As for me, I was on the receiving end of a 45-minute lecture from my
pdoc yesterday about my excessive involvement in Usenet, with a
*strong* suggestion that I spend the next 30 days getting *off* the
internet and back into the 3D world. The lecture better have been on
the house, because I can't really afford *that* much of his time. ;)

nfortunately, I've become so overinvolved in Usenet (not just here;
I've posted other places, too) that, for the last two months or so,
it's been *all* I've done. Literally. From the time I wake up in the
morning until the time I go to bed at night, I'm sitting here reading
and posting, reading and posting. Then, all this stuff swirls in my
mind as I lay in bed, and I end up getting about 1/2 the sleep I need.
I've neglected my family, my house, my work (I create and sell 3d
computer models), and my mental health because I've become so obsessed
with Usenet.

For now, I have to wean myself away from this world and try to get back

to my regular life. My marketing rep at the model broker called a
couple of weeks ago because my productivity has fallen off to nothing,
and I pretty much ignored his advice that I get back on top of things.
My pdoc is right; I just have to stop or I won't *have* a life in the
3D world any more. You all seem much better at balancing your on-line
use with your real lives, so this isn't meant as a blanket statement
about other people.

I've been gone awhile and have returned to so many new faces! I notice
one really surprising change. No sign of Linda Gore. Whatever happened
to her?

Sorry, I didn't realize there were two of us. I've changed my nym.
Maybe I'll have to make up a name.

What do you mean, "The dead wear many faces

I'm not Linda or a friend of Linda's (is anyone?), if that's what you
meant. It's just strange not to see her here when she'd been causing
trouble in this forum for years. I guess I've been gone too long.

So I noticed. Now it can claim professional status from its new base:
The crypt.
yup, I like how it claimed not to know there already was a Kali.. yet
s/h/it knew all about Linda stinking up the place...

"It" was curious to find out if LG really was "netdead," because that's

what "it" had heard. "It" used to hang out here many years ago (think
Mark and John era), but "it" didn't remember a Kali from back then.
"It" has always liked that name and was surprised to find a "Kali"
already here. Sorry to Kali.

"It" was hoping someone would be more specific about why LG was
netdead, although "it" suspects bizarre, paranoid accusations may have
had something to do with it. Back in the day, this NG had a lot of
professionals posting. LG always attacked them. Now "it" sees they're
gone and wonders what happened. Not much posting now.

Yes, "it" is a sock puppet, but not one that will cause problems here.
"It" is only looking for information. "It" would suck big time as a
spy.

I will go away, since I'm not getting what I'd hoped for. I have to
say, though, your ability to deduce the truth from my posts is about as

poor as my ability to act as a spy using a sock puppet.

I have been gone from this group for 6 or more years. I only exchanged
a few emails with John, none with Mark (and only recently learned what
became of him), and a few more with the female psychoanalyst whose name

I no longer remember (but who doesn't seem to be here now, anyway). But

someone. I also remember there was an expert on autism and PDDs here,
who moderated/participated in an autism NG also, but I don't remember
her name, either. What do you expect after 6, 7 years?

The fact that I don't know Kali or Kym means nothing. I was a MINOR
participant, but I know this is where I first encountered LG, and I
have heard that she had problems with this group. That's why I came
HERE looking for information.

I am being harassed by LG under a different nym on a different forum
and was looking for some information I might use TO MAKE HER GO AWAY.
It should be obvious why I don't want to use my real name.

That's the ONLY reason I came here. I don't expect you to believe me.

Sorry to make you paranoid. :(

Yes, Fiona. That was it.

Possibly you mean Leslie Packer, but Leslie works in the field of Tourette
syndrome and doesn't moderate.

I do mean Leslie, and you're right, it was Tourette... sorry, but I
haven't thought about this stuff in a very long time.

What do you expect after 6, 7 years?
The Usenet standard of using google to research? A clue? Sensitivity from
someone who knows about the history of harassment in spp? D'oh?

I apologize for the way I approached you at first. I hate to admit that

my hope was someone would say something that would divert her attention

away from the places she is now back to here... yes, I was trying to
foist her back on you, but I figured since she was "netdead" (or what I

heard) no one would really care. My mistake. My apologies.

Something that you could not find in google, I assume.
I am being harassed by LG under a different nym on a different forum
and was looking for some information I might use TO MAKE HER GO AWAY.
It should be obvious why I don't want to use my real name.
Not exactly consistent with your earlier attempts at showing insight on
the disruption in spp right?
My advice; If you truly have a problem with her pronounce her publicly
net.dead. No amount of interaction will work with some harassers, and she
is definitely one of them. Drop her; if she's making trouble with you,
it's because we won't let her *** with us, ditto other people elsewhere.
Now I've said enough, since I should know better than to discourse with
someone hiding their identity when debating a sensitive subject.
HAND.

It should be clear why I'm hiding my identity. I don't want the attacks

stepped up. I see that she's still posting to some here, so revealing
myself would create problems for me. Not revealing myself creates no
problems for you, since most people are using nyms or partial nyms.

Sorry to have bothered you, and thanks for the advice.
