Hi Hoof,
I forgot to ask how your Horse is doing. Wasn't well the last time I answered one of your Posts. Hope everything has worked out fine.
I think Slap Stick says a lot about us. When we can both feel for and laugh at the misfortunes of others. But the one who has the misfortune often times only sees the laughter. I think we learn a lot about ourselves without knowing it when we watch Comedy like that.
Comedy and Tragedy often go hand in hand. Buster was my favorate Comedian because he understood that I think better than most. Even when taking films came out he still drew an audience and didn't say a single word in all but one of his Films I know of.
Buster Keaton reminds me of the cartoon character Beetle Bailey for some reason or other.
Oh he does a bit. I like the one where he was building a House and went to pick up a Hammer when the Whole side of the house fell on him with his back to the House There is a Window that keeps him from being crushed. And he acts like he never saw at until he turns around and sees the House missing it's side.
No Special effects back then, he did all his own stunts and most Comics back then copied what he did as he generally did them first. Even C. Chaplin copied Keaton.
I didn't see too many of his films, I guess I was far too young to go to the movies and the big thing was the Tube. I liked Jackie Gleason, not the honeymooners but his other show where he crashed a bicycle into a wall was one of his stunts. Another one was Steve Allen, and Shecky Greene, and a few of those old folks. Red Skelton was a good one too.
Sounds like you might be my Generation too, but I liked seeing his old silent movies and chips on the Tube.
Oh god you named all the good ones didn't you. There was one before Steve Allen that was real good but passed away before his and but I can't remember his name.
Let me think about it. I know there were lots more, but at the moment I have other things on my mind. Jack Parr was after Steve Allen or was he before? Oh wait, jack Parr was before Carson on the Tonight Show.
No I think this was before Jack Par.
Steve Allen took over after this guy died.
But he laid the ground work for a lot of special effects like tilting the Camera and sawing the legs off a Table to make it look level until you put a Glass on it!:?)
It wasn't a talk show but it's where Steve got noticed later to guest host the Jack Parr Show.
It was like Saturday Night Life or SCTV of it's time.
Ohhh, I can't remember the name but I can still see his face.
I liked Jack Benny too. They PAID him to stay off the air!
Oh Rochesterrrrrr!! Yep they were funny, and I liked that show too. hoof
Red Skelton was another of my Favorates too and the world lost a rare one when he was gone.
The was one other too.
He was as big as Benny but was more a Daytime Talkshow type Host.
He was in Radio and then went both Radio and TV as one show like Howard Stern until the late 60's.
Had a gruff Voice, oh I know his name but can't remember.
Last few years his broadcasts were from HI but he lived in VA I think and Died in the 80's.
He was an Edward R Morrow type that shot himself in the foot so to speak over something i can't remember that angered the public.
His show was more of a News Show but it was also like the Tonight Show in that he filled in time with acts and skits.
His show was also like 3 or 4 hours long from morning to afternoon.
He was also known as a Ham Radio Operator too.
The wife and I are going nuts trying to remember the name LOL!:?)
Maybe from what I wrote you may remember him.
His show was so successful they paid him off and only could appear so many times on TV a year.
Now there's a man who could bring a tear to Lincoln's eye by the grip he holds on to a penny!:?)
Come to think of it, wasn't Benny the first Sec. of the Treasury before Madison?:?) No wonder our Troops were Starving at Valley Forge!:?0)
His last Film about Canada Railways coast to coast in the late 90's was great.
Thanks again for the Post, the Wife and I enjoyed it very much!:?)
thanks for sharing and have a Merry Christmas and to those who hold other spiritual beliefs have a Great Holiday and if you are hitting the roads have a safe trip. ;)
Thank you and you too.
