Re: Why Pay Attention To Cold Fusion Advocates?

should anybody believe cold fusion is any more real than ghosts?

Cold fusion is crap. It seems to have replace the New Age magic crystal fad of the early-1990s. I'll compare it to psychics, notice how neither psychics or cold-fusion theorists make money off their psychic or cold fusion abilities, rather they make money from writing books on those subjects. A real psychic could predict tomorrow's lottery numbers and a read cold-fusion engineer could generate unlimited electricity to sell. Cold fusion should be next on the Patent Office's hit list, it should be banned from consideration along with all the perpetual motion machine patent applications.

And to rave slightly, my favorite episode of "Outer Limits" involves
cold fusion. A college student takes a class hostage and tells them
he has a cold fusion bomb and proves it by detonating a micronuke in
the campus bell tower. The secret of cold fusion is so obvious it's
amazing no one realized it before, and so simple that even a child
can make a cold fusion bomb using materials found in any home. The
reason we don't hear alien radio signals from space is because as
soon as any alien civilization reaches roughly-20th century level
technology they discover the secret of cold fusion and blow themselves
up. He's finally killed and his bomb defused, and the episode ends
in another college classroom, this time with a final exam asking the
students to explain in their own words why cold fusion is impossible.
One student looks at it, gets up and walks out and the professor asks
where he thinks he's going. He tells the professor not to worry,
that he'll be back "real soon." Bwahahahahah!
