Sure; to block E fields, any conductor will do (like,
salt water). Doesn't have to be metal. And to block M
fields, a variety of magnetic materials (including
ceramics) are available. Liquid oxygen, for
instance, is paramagnetic...

Me, I'd use something cheap and non-exotic, and non
messy. Like, metal.
