Thanks Paul - it's what it looks like on the photos of Edinburgh also.
Sorry for the delayed reply - weekend away in uniform...
Grand fun!

Do you miss those days, Genie?
Of course! Where else can one get as much masochism at the price?
Buggering about the oceans deep on a tin can loaded with fuel and high
explosives, eating crappy food, often being soaking wet, wondering if
the navigator has the slightest clue as to where he is, hoping you
wont run into one of those thosuands of containers they lose overboard
every year and which float just under the surface and having the
grandest fun of all - taking to the lifeboats! Ah the thrill of it
all.
Soo ... dare I ask ... would you even be able to fit into one of your old
uniforms? Or, have you completely lost your mojo. ;^>
Would not matter if I could. It has been replaced by a new uniform
which, I dare say, is a lot nattier, niftier and easier to keep
looking neat. And is unisex. For once they seem to have got it right.
Only thing I do not like is the cap - the sort I cannot name as I only
know it by an obscene name learnt at my mother's knee. Same style as
she wore in WW2.
Did a bit of research. Wiki has this to say about the cap to which I
refer:
"A Side cap is a foldable military cap with straight sides and a
creased or hollow crown sloping to the back where it is parted. It is
known as a garrison cap (in the United States), a wedge cap (in
Canada), or officially field service cap, (in the United Kingdom and
Commonwealth countries), but it is more generally known as the side
cap. It follows the style which originated with the so-called Austrian
Cap in the 1890s."
