Towboat jobs

Am looking for something my 18 yr old son can do for work that will
get him some exposure to reality. When I was younger, I took an
oilfieild job but those seem few these days. However, I hear there
may be a shortage of deckhands on tow and tugboats. I checked some
web sites and there were a few openings for AB seamen. How does one
go about getting info for him getting such registration or training?
