In NZ just about the entire force has "Stab proof vests". (Foot patrol
and when in cars) Not sure on just how bullet proof they are though

They're essentially the same thing.

Slightly different construction but made of Kevlar.

They'll all stop a medium power pistol bullet (.38 S&W Special, 9mm
parabelum) at close-ish range, none of them will stop a rifle bullet.

I understand that the major difference is the level of bruising and other
injury to the wearer after the vest has absorbed the bullet energy. The
'knife proof' thingies aren't don't spread the bullet energy as well,
but do stop very sharp knives...

Well, they don't have ceramic plates, obviously...

They don't even have the pockets for them.

Which is interesting in itself.

They're obviously designed to deal with concealed weapons only.

Which brings us back to the Bombay police who were wearing something like
them when they got shot to bits...

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Barbeques on fire by the chalets past the castle headland
I watched the gift shops glitter in the darkness off the Newborough gate
All these moments will be lost in time, like icecream on the beach
Time for tea.
