These were never first rate submarines.
When the first Foxtrot was launched for the Soviet Navy it was already
a hand-me-down design from the Germans with minimal improvements and
the export version India got years later was no better.
So I guess they weren't really second hand.
German design: First hand.
Soviet Navy: Second hand.
Indian Navy: Third hand.
