Actually there was/is low security crypto for quick & dirty tactical
communication whose life of secrecy don't matter:

As some of the typical use of this Q&D crypto is calling in fire support, I
guess that Arved can say something, at least some story on (mis)use of this
;)

Target co-ordinates by themselves are not encrypted; you're going to shoot at
them and give the game away. The whole net, however, may be encrypted, then it
doesn't matter.
