Carrier reminded me of just how dangerous and intense every aspect of
carrier deck ops is. My God! Everybody involved, from the pilots to
the E3s on the deck, routinely risk their lives, sometimes for 18
hours a day. Even in daylight it's hairy but night landing evolutions
have to be seen to be believed. Jesus! It's a hard, dangerous way to
make a living.

Going to sea had its moments but, I confess, I never fell in love with
6 month deployments -- and I didn't have to contend with carrier
decks.

watching how long and hard the crew work made me glad I joined the US Air
Force.
