Control Panel > Internet Option > Connections > Never dial a
connection + Lan Settings > Automatically detect settings.
You software will be supplied by your ISP so if you want to unload the
set up at any time and reinstall it just get rid of that. The driver
is a separate entity supplied by the telephone company and might
remain on board when you remove the ISP programme. Not sure.
You can select that driver to un-install in Add and Remove programmes
too and reinstall it from the ISP's disk.
The most common problem with getting online is if you have been
hijacked. I take it you know all about safety tools?
Thanks, I haven't had the problem recur, I am starting to believe the
problem was system, ie cable company, wide and not in my computer. One
of the differences that causes trouble to a former dial up user is the
modem lights can be "normal" and still have a problem.
