Interesting, it could his claims are repeated because they are correct.
There are a lot of causes of dispersion but pushing a gun to it's limits
is a major one. The RN replaced the 12 inch 50 with the 13.5 firing a
heavier shell at lower velocity. The shell was later increased in weight
with a further lowering of MV.

Other causes of dispersion can be interference between guns, some US
triple mounts suffered from this and structural flexing. One class of
Japanese cruiser had to be stiffened after it fired it's entire
ammunition content at a target without getting a single hit. At Calibria
Italian ships were repeatedly straddling the RN line without getting any
hits.

Off course Andre can be a pain sometimes but he usually knows what he
is talking about.

Andre has a tendency to be an insufferable righteous prick if someone
doesn't have their facts straight. As a Nova Scotian former Marine I have no
problems in saying so. :-)

LOL. Well, as a former and present central Canadian civilian, I have no
problems with your saying so. Because what you said is quite true. I have
no problems in saying so. :-)

As it happens, he seems to be very civil if (1)
you do have your research done, and/or (2) you freely admit that you don't
really know the subject and are trying to find out.

Indeed. What gets me into " prick mode " is someone asserting as fact
what is clearly not. Now, if a person offers some such, but qualifies
it with, say, " This is what I have heard, what say you folks here ",
then I would have no need of " prick mode , for their would be no
ignorant assertion to refute.

As near as I can tell, since I do have some background on the topics, and do
have reference material, Andre does normally seem to be right, for some
decent definition of "right".

<g> I am also happy that, with our new high speed internet service, we
are doing very well in finding more excellent reference sources in
book form to purchase. I've got an order working up that includes a
copy of David Brown's The Royal Navy and the Falklands War ( presently
out of print ) for only $20 US, hardcover.

That is, if you were to contest his arguments
you'd have to be well researched yourself.

Its also a good source of exercise for me, in that both of our computers
are on the 2nd floor of the house, while my reference library is in the
basement den. A good round of posting can have me going down and up
several times in one session.

Exercise for the body and exercise for the mind. Win-win. :-)
