Defense Officials Tried to Reverse China Policy, Says Powell Aide

conditionNixon failed horribly in his deal that recognition on mainland china.
he should have made the mainland renouce its claim to taiwan as a
getof recognition.
but nixon was so desperate for any "victory" that he allowed himself to
tooled by the chicoms.
and now we have a potential war flashpoint.
How could Nixon have asked Mainland China to renounce Taiwan when both
sides, Beijing and Taipei recognized only one China. The best thing he
could have done was to stay out of China's civil war and USA would be
safe. He did the second best thing and that was the one China policy.
Today USA is over streched. US Misses the oppotunity to make real
friends with Chinese who can be of great help in solving global
problems.
easy. he makes the mainland do it as a condition of recognition, which they
desperately needed and wanted.
and we controlled taiwan. they were a proxy state for us and they depended
on trade with us and our army for defense.
the chinese don't want to be our friend. they have never wanted to be
anybody's friend.- Hide quoted text -
The world has changed rapidly in the last few years especially in
Asia.
Since these changes took place in Asia you may not be aware of it.
Mainland China has become the largest trading partners of Taiwan,
Japan and S Korea. Especially Taiwan, 2/3 of their export now goes to
the Mainland.
USA will be facing the dillema one day, of paying for the defence of
countries in Asia where US economic interest is marginalized.
US had wanted Taiwan to buy plenty of American arms and then serve as
US proxy, but Taiwan refused to pay. USD20 bil arm purchase bill
failed to pass the Taiwan Legislature dispite of pressure from
Whitehouse and Congress.
US may volunteer their sons and daughters to play protector role
without reward if Americans so wish. Americans no longer call all the
shots.
We are at a historical stage where US military role no longer coincide
with its economic interest.
