OK, so now we have this theory that the Clovis People were seriously
set back and the North American Megafauna wiped out 13000 yrs ago by a
small comet exploding above the Laurentian Ice *** over North
America. Considering that the Clovis people were fairly advanced and
that the megafauna might have included some domesticable animals,
maybe we ought to consider this in light of the Thesis of "Guns Germs
and Steel" that it was simply a chance occurrence of things that made
European civilization top dog.
If the comet theory is true, lets assume it then DOES NOT HAPPEN.
Would this give rise to a North American civilization to rival those
of Europe and Asia? Natives of NA had the organization, after all,
look at pre-Columbian mound builders. They had good tech 13000 yrs
ago. What could happed?
I am not sure the examples of Central American civs tell us much here
cuz they all had factors that limited them such as limited area and
limited food supply. The Aztecs basically went sorta cannibal due to
lack of animal protein. The Maya had problems with arable land area
and their civ seemdd to die from warfare as a result.

desoto encountered many well organized groups living in large communities.
the way i see it is that the fact that his small forcebeing able to defeat
these groups {and not with gunfire as they ran out of poweder early on} so
ruined the prestige of these governments that the peoples scattered and it
was their decendents that the americanst encountered.

the mound builders , the hopewell and adena cultures are the most overlooked
aspect of americanhistory, their mounds are all over the river valleys of
the mississippi watershed.

they are well worth visiting, kahokia is quite impressve, the snake mound
in ohio and etowah mounds in Ga too. whenever i've travelled the area on
civil war trips i make sure to hunt any mounds up.
