I understand that it costs WaLMart only modestly to be able to
automatically and in real time locate every tractor and trailer of the
world's single largest logistics fleet.
WalMart has very smart technology. The other day I was walking out the door
and some automated voice screamed at me to stop and come back in the store.
It was frightening. The greeter suggested I try going out again, and "the
voice" said come back!
It turns out that one of my purchases hadn't been properly scanned and I was
pegged as a potential shoplifter by some super smart robot! Anyway, my
receipt cleared me.
Speaking of WalMart greeters, they're very pleasant people worthy of
ambassadorships to other countries.
One of the reg greeters always tells me when I enter, "Hi, Ni! Great to see
you! How're you doing?! Welcome back!"
I turned the tables on him the other day and said, "Hi, Bob. How the hell
are you doing?!" He replied, "Excellent, Ni! If I were doing any better,
there'd be two of me!"
I thought that was kinda cute ... and now I like to tell people there are
two of me ...%)

I understand the greeters scare the hell out of German tourists
.
