I don't think this damage was due to a "dud" torpedo. Granted, if it
had hit anywhere else, it wouldn't have been as serious (the show also
showed torpedo damage on the side (RN cruiser launched larger torpedo),
limited by the anti-torpedo bulkhead) so it was a damned lucky shot.
