Far more pleasant and refreshing is simply plain old garden variety tea, heavily iced - almost beyond Italian commercial capacity in a nation where the norm per glass is 2.4 tiny quick-melting cubes. Made with lemon and orange peel, lightly sweetened - best of the artifices being the yellow-pack "Splenda" in the US, actually a real sugar and dosed with some lime, served in a liter container, drink enough and you'll be awarded honorary citizenship in Georgia, not the European one.
I like iced coffee, but aging, European ice makers are barely sufficient to chill vaccines, and one does need a bunch for the pleasure of the beverage, almost always served sweetened. Vietnamese style with a bit of "condensed" milk poured over the top provides both dessert and after dinner beverage. Some even claim that "Correto" with a bit of grappa improves the drink.
Our local drink based on "Limoncello" involves a tall glass, ice, a shot of Limoncello, a quarter of a lemon squeezed, then filling with club soda/seltzer/carbonated water.
interesting suggestions, I'll give them a try, but the carbonated limoncello/lemon juice seems out of question, because i have a rather anaestethic "beer belly" to remove ASAP....
Best regards from Italy,
Dott. Piergiorgio.
