I believe the British at one period actually thought of doing much the

You may be confusing the hybrid carrier thing, with the notions that
Churchill had, at the Admiralty in 1939, of slathering some R Class
battleships with armour, to use in the Baltic, that would have
required the removal of the superfiring 15 inch turrets.

No I'm not.

The RN did study some hybrid carrier notions, but that was about
it, no actual plans, much less actual shipbuilding, ever came of it.

Did I say different? According to Captain Lambe RN, Director of
Plans, the hybrid carrier project was a genuine design operation and
an immense amount of time and work had been put into them. Extensive
drawings had been made and experiments carried out - but eventually
the boffins had decided that existing technology could not produce an
efficient ship of this nature.

Well, according to a USNI bok on the topic, the RN did a few cursory
studies that did not detract from actual shipbuilding processes.

So, I seriously doubt the " immense amount " and " extensive " parts
of your statement. Got a cite ? ( Note: As your claim came first, I
need provide no cite before you do. )
