It's the US government that wants them there.
One assumes there must therefore be an acceptable level of casualties...
The current executive may well be groundlessly optimistic about how people
feel about US servicemen in the Middle East, they certainly proved to be so
in Iraq, however I assume the DNI and his people are better informed and
have told the politicians exactly what the risks are.
It's the US government that has decided that some US servicemen may well die
for PR, not me.
