Dear Astrid,
It always feels like failing to me and I don't like it. So I want to
be able
to get the best result. If I can't read one or two of the letters will
he
presume I need a stronger prescription. Or is there more to it than
that?
I'd like to know how that's decided.
Most Eye-Docs what you to have the sharpest vision possible.
Thus if you see the big "E", they will use increasingly stronger
minus lenses until you get the sharpest vision possible.
In fact some eyes have the ability to see 20/20, 20/15, and even
20/10 (depending on the person). Thus if the OD can
find a lens that gets you considerably better than
20/20 -- then that will be your prescription.
Others try to "restrict" the strength of that minus -- to
avoid having your eyes "adapt" to a stronger minus,
with the result that your naked eye vision would get
worse.
The "jury" is still out on that subject.
Best,
Otis
.
