Re: Eye test

I am preparing for an eye test and downloaded an online eye test. I guess
you'll say they're no good.
Without my glasses I could make out the E but it was very blurry with my
right eye, with my left I could make out the next line but again very blurry.
With my glasses I could read the 20/30 with my right and at a push the 20/20
with my left.

When things are very blurry I never know whether to count that as being able
to see it or not. With the E for example, I know its an E but it's unclear -
so do I say I can see it or not. I don't want to make the eye doctor
irritated so what do I say?

How many letters in a line do you have to fail before they decide you can't
read it?

If you read a letter correctly then you've 'passed' that letter, even if it was blurry. Ditto for a whole line - if you can read it then you've achieved that standard, whether it was easy or hard.

Your eye doctor can tell if what you're seeing is blurry or clear or not by your tone of voice, your speed of reading, and the number of errors you make in a line. So you don't need to worry about explaining how things look, just have a go at reading and don't worry if you make a few mistakes on the smaller & blurrier lines. Your eye doctor does this 10-15 times a day and he/she knows what's going on. If he/she wants to know if a line is clear or blurry, he/she will ask you. Otherwise, if he/she just wants you to read a line, just try to read it without offering any detailed explanations. If you're having trouble reading a line but can nearly see it, having a guess is fine.

Many people feel a little pressured when having the eye test, but you'll always be asked to read to the limits of your eyesight - otherwise it wouldn't be an eye 'test', right?! So don't worry just have fun with it. People who are relaxed actually end up with more reliable results than people who agonise over each answer and worry too much about whether they've made any mistakes.
