I've had BPH for over 10 years and used Hytrin
to increase urine flow. It doesn't shrink the prostate It's worked well
for me and also has benefit of reducing blood pressure.
I get up once and sometimes twice in the night depending on my fluid
intake
My Dr looks at prostate surgery as the very last resort. He's seen so
many bad or botched results and unpleasant side effects from surgery. He
himself would continue on meds as long as possible to control the BPH. I
know there may come a time when meds may longer help but I'll hang on as
long as I still can with some quality of life.
I replied to this over 24 hours ago, and my post still did not show up.
Something is amiss.
Here is a repost of what I wrote yesterday:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hytrin is in the same class of drugs as Flomax, which I have been on for 20
years. The doctor recently doubled my dosage, but it had no pronounced
effect on my situation.
As far as quality of life goes, I would have to say that I have none
presently. If it were not for the grandchildren I have to make me happy, my
quality of life would suck big time.
Getting this procedure done is the only hope I have for improvement. Yes, I
have read several stories here of problems, but I have read enough success
stories to look forward to something positive. I have for 20 years thought
of surgery as the last resort, and I have reached the point of it being my
only resort, short of wearing Depends or never leaving home. My brother had
a TURP done 12 years ago, and it made a tremendous improvement for him, but
in the last year or 2, he started to have the old problems coming back. If I
see the same improvements he did and they last for 15 years, I will be an
ecstatic 81 year old.
As I said previously, I will keep you informed of the results, good or bad.
I found this group very helpful and informative, and I will do my part to
inform others.
Best Regards,
Bob
