The Evolve system is apparently a 980 nm (IR) laser vs the 532 nm
(Green Light). Shortly after I had my PVP two and a half years ago,
Laserscope came out with their "High Performance' system that uses
diode pumping. As you say as long as it does the job it is not
important how it gets to the desired frequency. So far here I am
doing quite well. Flow is still good. Not a 20 year old flow.
Bladder volume is not as much as I might like. Still get up a couple
times a night but not the long slow dribble it used to be.
Note: I notice you are frequently posting on the EE group. I retired
20 years ago and find I am getting more and more out of date.
I retired at about the same time. I was working with lasers and optics
at that time. It frustrates me that technical information on the uro
tools is so hard to get, For example, until this post of yours, I
suspected that diode pumping was used for these lasers but could never
find anything specifically saying so.
I think most tissue is relatively translucent at 980 nm. I do not know
what kind of a laser produces that. At 532 nm absorption from blood will
be much higher. The holmium laser was also touted for medical
application. I believe that it was strongly absorbed by water in tissue
but I do not really know.
As far as technology is concerned, I am still going on the basis of
understanding fundamentals. It amazes me how many misconceptions are out
there even among trained EE's. I am not able to keep up well with new
specific developments. One of my gripes that extends beyond EE is that
practitioners do not understand that being able to use language properly
to communicate is part of being a good technologist. Without good
grammar and usage, many posts are useless.
