Jesse,
Any urethral instrumentation can cause a urethral stricture. the
chances are higher if the instrument has a bigger caliber, stays longer
in the urethra or if it is manipulated vigorously instead of carefully.
PVP caused a 7% stricture rate in a study from Germany, but they used a
26 F resectoscope similar to what urologists use for TURP. I use a 23 F
scope, and I have not seen a urethral stricture causing bothersome
symptoms yet after more than 350 patients.
