Saw Palmetto as preventation?

I asked this in 2000 and got brushed off, sort of.

I take a small aspirin daily because statistical data on heart
attacks indicates this is wise. I have no heart symptoms.
Similarly, I take some vitamins but have no vitamin deficiency.

At 84 I have no BPH symptoms but I take one capsule
of saw palmetto a day as a precaution. (Two is the
standard "treatment".)

Is it reasonable to take saw palmetto as a prophylactic
to ward off BPH?
