Ok here is the situation:
I'm 49 yr old white male with lipids problem
I'm also without ANY insurance for drug coverage so
entire cost of drugs is out of pocket for me. So money
IS an issue!
I was on 20 mg Lipitor but after talking to my doc, he
agreed to putting me on 40 mg simvastatin. He said I'd
need double the dose of simvastatin as of Lipitor to
get same results and to take the simvastatin at night
instead of taking Lipitor in AM. Something abt it being
more effective if taken at night before bed.
Problem is..... to get a good cheap price on
simvastatin I must drive to Costco two hrs away. I
live in a small town with only a super Walmart.... no
Costco
So.... found out that lovastatin was on Walmart's four
dollar list and went and talked to doc abt it but he
was not keen on taking lovastatin saying that I'd have
to take even higher dose (maybe 80 mg to be effective).
Now I have learned that Walmart has pravastatin on its
four dollar list as well. So my question is any value
to asking doc abt taking lovastatin so I can start
using Walmart here locally
Its not a HUGE pain to get to Costco....and keep using
simvastatin..... I could even mail order it I think.
But since I'm at local Walmart a lot anyway.... what do
you think?
Bottom line is 40 mg of pravastatin as effective as 40
mg of simvastatin and 20 mg Lipitor?
Id really like to get back on Lipitor so as to take
meds first thing in the morning as it is easy to forget
taking the 40 mg simvastatin at night. But MONEY is
the issue here and will do what I need to do.
