zocor/niacin - joint pain

Hi, I have been reading that taking zocor with niacin is not
recommended. I have been taking 20 mg zocor with 1000mg niacin
(morning and night) for probably 10 years. I have been getting a full
lipid profile, as well as liver enzymes, annually and everything has
been alright. For about 1 year now I have been experiencing alot of
joint pain in my knees. Xrays actually look pretty good according to
the orthopedist. But I am wondering about the zocor (no other meds).
1) If I stop taking it and the niacin, how long will it take for the
pain to go away - if ever (if it is indeed caused by the zocor/niacin)
2) any thoughts on stopping the niacin and continiuing with zocor
3) what effect would stopping zocor/niacin 10 days before a blood test
have on the results? Is 10 days that significant to the results? (I
can keep taking the meds, I am just anxious to see if the pain goes
away)
