become part of the problem. Check in with your local Salvation
Army, Red Cross, etc. Freelancers have no infrastructure to support
them and quickly run out of food, water, etc and become an added
burden on the rescue workers.
Also, at least in the early phases, give money instead of
clothes, etc. (unless your local SA/ARC people ask specifically for
such things for their local shelters). The agencies can get money
to the area and buy things much easier than trucking a load of stuff
from your area to there, especially since there is obviously no
wharehouse space available.
