Yes, it does mean that.
I'm not sure about John's "... find a legal way of doing it", because they
actually DO have a legal way of doing it.
Well, that just an inference, an example of what the implied meaning could
be.
Could it be understood in another way?
I don't think you need another way; 'you might have a point after all'
seems sufficient.
