Re: Did anyone watch the two parter on TV; 10.5?

The sad part is I think someing could make a good movie about earthquakes,
volcanoes or such .... if they tried no one seems to want to make one.
They take a perfectly good disaster scenario screw up the science and then
add really lame plot lines.

Actually they seem to have made at least one good movie made about a
volcano.

/Supervolcano/, by the BBC and Discovery Channel, is the first DVD I've
ever bought solely on the recommendation of a scientist, and it was
based on this 2005 article in /Geotimes/:

Just ordered it this week and it hasn't arrived yet, so I can't comment
on it in detail, but it sure sounds like a winner.

[T]he world, to do it justice, has an instinct for what it needs. The
earth
was really very flat, for those Victorians who most vigorously
repeated that it was round, and Alverno of the Stigmata stood up
as a single mountain in the plain. But the earth is an earthquake,
a ceaseless and apparently endless earthquake, for the moderns
for whom Newton has been scrapped along with Ptolemy. And for them
there is something more steep and even incredible than a mountain;
a piece of really solid ground; the level of the level-headed man.
