Actually they seem to have made at least one good movie made about a

/Supervolcano/, by the BBC and Discovery Channel, is the first DVD I've
ever bought solely on the recommendation of a scientist, and it was
based on this 2005 article in /Geotimes/:

Just ordered it this week and it hasn't arrived yet, so I can't comment
on it in detail, but it sure sounds like a winner.

Oh, it's a winner, all right. Just like "10.5"--only slightly shorter.
This is the one where the guy in the car races down the highway,
successfully outspeeding a pyroclastic flow. In fact, there's a photo
of that very scene on the Web page you gave above.

Plus, I think this movie (which is already about three years old)
represents an unfortunate--& possibly dangerous--new trend in TV
disaster programs: mixing documentary reportage with fictional
dramatization, probably to the point of confusing viewers even more
about the scientific facts behind these events. There's actually a new
TV series on that does this in each installment. It's called "Perfect
Disaster" & it's on the Discovery Channel every week.
