Geologists may suddenly find themselves paying homage to the physicists
and indeed many would like it that way.Take that priceless passage you
presented -
"Scientists, on the other hand, do not feel the need to suppress novel
ideas, although they may dismiss them if the arguments supporting them
are
not convincing. An example of this would be Alfred Wegener, whose
continental drift theory was dismissed by his contemporaries because no
known mechanism could account for the drift. However, when the theory
of
plate tectonics provided the necessary mechanism, Wegener's arguments
quickly convinced most geologists."
Sadly I have been correct in that it is only a matter of time before
physicists shift their roadshow from astronomy to geology after
destroying that once noble discipline. If geologists are prepared to see
Wegener's working principles re-written to suit physicists and their
dumb convection cell mechanism then they can say goodbye to centuries
worth of excellent reasoning up to this point. The passage above is a
taste of things to come and geology will follow astronomy into a
quagmire of undisciplined theorists with exotic notions of terrestial
surface evolution.
You do not disgust me,the cowardice of the geologists will disgust me.
