John, there are, in fact, Geologists here in this newsgroup. We just
particularly draw the same level of attention to ourselves as the kooks to
whom you refer above. You could try filtering out those you don't want to
have discussions with. In doing so myself, I have found this NG to be a
lot more user friendly.
Oh, I'm aware there's some posting of geologists here (a long, slow, gradual
decline over time of course, as USEnet went from primarily internet usage to
general use and presumably a lot of discussion moved to subscription e-mail
lists....as happened in meteorology groups.)
