East African rifting region. Right on the border between Mozambique and
Zimbabwe ... which my memory from various sources puts as being a series
of Archean granitic (structural) highs interspersed with
greenschist-facies meta-basic belts. That's an unusual situation for a
M7+. Come to think of it, the depth is given as 5km, which is pretty
shallow.
This one is going to bear watching.
The Rhodesians I've known (note - *not* Zimbabweians) from that
area have described it as fairly sparsely populated with widely spaced
farms, so relatively few people to be harmed by the quake. There are some
cities though - Mutare for example.
