Hi Everyone,

Tomorrow's my Birth Day. You'll notice I didn't write birthday because
no one says it all in one word, it's really two... birth day. When
yours rolls around, just tell people tomorrow is my Birth Day,
cheerfully of course, wearing a nice smile when you say it, because it
is your special day. I was happy this year that my birthday came on
Saturday because that meant I didn't have to use my vacation time to
take the day off. I think your special day should not include the
possibility of someone being mean or nasty on the phone as it kind of
spoils it. But, no matter how much I planned to have my special day
remain special, something happened this morning and it all changed.

This morning at 5:30am I was reading my e-mail and someone from this
site wrote me a nasty gram and told me that I was in essence delusional
in regard to the prediction for Australia and there were hints that
this was a serious matter as an 8.0 can kill people. Well, you know
what, I know that. But I'm not sending any messages to Australia.
They have their own scientists and if they think something is going to
happen, that's their job to address it, not mine.

So though I was polite my response to this person, when I got in the
shower I thought about it and the next thing you know, I, Miss Manners
was uttering profanities. No one should start their day like that and
then it continued to nag me. It still does.

I'm about to rant, so if you don't want to read my ranting, click off
here. To the person who sent me the nasty-gram, let me see if you can
measure up. These are the projects I have underway currently and this
includes having a full time job:

1. In December I was contacted by a geologist in CA and offered the
opportunity to present a project proposal for a scientific endeavor to
piggy back it with his project. But I only had two weeks to submit my
outline and 30 days to write the proposal. Remember, it's the
holidays. So he's pushing like he.l and I needed to get the costs for
the project before I could write the proposal, but he wants it
yesterday. As I've never written a scientific proposal I asked for
help and it came. It came in the form of someone giving me a document
on how to write a winning proposal and an outline. I also had offers
from three professors to read it and critique it. Then came the
project costs and December was almost over, so I told the geologist to
take a hike. It's either going to be done right, or not all. He's
pissed off, but like I told him, "better to be pissed off than pissed
on." But I still want to do the project, so I just have to find
another way, which I've already explored, but it has to wait. I don't
have time for it now.

2. I decided to finish my book and last week I had two chapters left.
I wrote 1 ½ of them which equaled 45,000 words in 4 days and a lot of
night work. But it's coming along. I still need some facts to use and
I'm waiting for answers. But I'm on my way.

3. I had to do some PR work for my Kiwanis Club and that's out of the
way.

4. Near the end of December I created a new marketing plan for
prospecting more new business and I had to fit that in with the rest of
the above. But it got done and it should help.

5. My research project now has 3 men and 5 women participating and it
takes about 10 hours a week to manage the documentation.

6. I have a house and yard to care for, laundry to do and a teenager
still in the house. While it is not demanding, it does take time.

7. I was asked out for a date on my birthday by a man who is ten years
my junior, but he wanted to go and see King Kong and I'm not into King
Kong. He knew it was my birthday and he didn't offer any other
choices, so I said no way. Obviously, he's selfish.

8. I took time to write a local Assembly person about reforming
tenants rights. There haven't been any updates in the laws since 1945
and a lot has changed since then. But you have to keep after these
people and if they aren't interested, you have to find someone else and
start again.

9. Every day I read the Sacramento Bee and at least once a week they
write an article about DV. So I make sure I send an e-mail thanking
them and I send another one to thank the editor. I hope this keeps the
spotlight on a social issue which needs a serious cure.

10. This week some of my clients had serious water damage/flood
damages and every day I called them to see how they were and make sure
they are being taken care of. There are some problems which will need
more letter writing, but I'll do it at home and squeeze it in-between
my other projects.

So to the person who thinks that I'm delusional the other people who
know me don't seem to be in agreement with you or they wouldn't work
with me. My birthday officially starts at 1:37am tomorrow morning an
most likely, I'll still be awake and writing. I hope by then thoughts
of you will have escaped me.

END RANT

And so it goes. Life is a journey and it's in this journey we
experience this wonderful thing called Life.

Still Dancing In the Light

Happy Birth Day, Petra!!!

And continue to dance. As TS Eliot once wrote:

"Without the point, the still point, there cannot be the dance.
And the dance is all there is."

Or something of the sort!

Stay busy and be happy. Idiots abound in this world and we can only try to
avoid having them drown us.

Cheers, PennyB
