Struggling to keep up with AGU looming, but, briefly, yes, I am well
aware of Ross' very interesting work, as well as his other talents.
(If you ever have a chance to hear him give a public lecture, go!) His
research has focused on the other half of the earthquake interaction
story: the role of static stress changes on earthquake triggering.
According to my world view, static stress is important in the
near-field (aftershocks, related mainshocks), whereas dynamic stress
controls what happens at larger distances. But these are really only
hypotheses, which some of us are now working to test. I have
interesting discussions with Ross and some of my other colleagues on
this. (More of which I suspect are on tap for next week...)
