Thanks, I'm going to give that a try. I the NGDC site, and it looks like
the declination today is 11 deg 3' west, or a little more than 2 degrees
further west. Wouldn't I want to use a compass bearing of 128 degrees?
(the line is South 54 deg East, or 126 degrees, and then I should add 2
degrees to that to account for the change in declination, correct?)

Now to just get a decent compass... ;-) It looks like I want to try to
be within degree or two, one degree error should produce an error of
about 5 feet if I did the calculations correctly.
