interesting question. the point positioning accuracy of a garmin etrex (12
channel reveiver) is stated as <15 m without DGPS; with DGPS the accuracy
is in the 1-3 m range depending on the type of DGPS (USCG vs WAAS). from my
experience with the garmin GPS II+, if I mark a waypoint and navigate back
to it, i can get within 20 m (+/-), based on the display relative to the
waypoint feature. and this is fairly repeatable from day to day or week to
week.
how about if you calculate a position and navigate to it (as opposed to
navigating back to a collected position)? i would expect it to be the same-
within the manufacturer's tolerance.
