I am guessing that you meant this statement:
<QUOTE>
Additionally, being a "member" here is like being
a member of a crowd waiting for a bus.
<END QUOTE>
Usenet does not have membership. Even moderated newsgroups do
not have membership. We don't collect dues. We don't require
education, class, or even good manners (but we appreciate at
least two out of three). So this "assemblage" is pretty loose,
about what you would find at a bus stop near an engineering firm
(assuming they didn't all have cars).
English is pretty slippery. I don't have an alternate word other
than "members"... perhaps "denizens"? ;>)
By the way, it is a good idea to leave some fragment of the post
you are responding to. That way you do not get offended when a
response of yours is not replied to. I only routinely look
through stuff with my "name" in it. How this can be made easy
is:
<QUOTE from "bz", dated 2005jun23, on sci.physics.relativity,
title "Re: Speed of Light: A universal Constant?">
_____, did you know that you can 'properly quote'
using google groups? When you open an article
click on 'show options' then 'show original' THEN
'reply to author'.
<END QUOTE>
.... you don't need to leave the entire text... only who posted
that you are replying to, and the stuff you are replying to (or
questioning).
