This list is STILL being hammered by porno-spam! Are you sure we
shouldn't have a select mailing list? Or is it really going to pass as
it has before.

A closed list would probably exclude a lot of people who
lurk here below the radar. We could try a moderated group
if people think the spam and porn and are out of hand. But,
based on the relatively small amount of junk we are getting
now, I would prefer to just ignore it as we have in the
past.

I agree. The S/N ratio is high enough to keep the group open, I think.
Moderated, fine, but then someone has to do the moderation...

I moderated group has the advantage that anyone can still
read the group, but we can control posting. I participate
in one moderated group and the one thing I don't like is the
delay between the time I send a message and the time it
shows up in the group. This can take up to 1 day, which
would interfere with some of the more interesting
discussions we have here. Perhaps I should look into this a
bit more. I believe there is software that will allow
"registered" members to post immediately and only require
that the moderator check messages from non-registered
posters.

The software that allows automatic posting without delay for registered
members sounds like a good solution, Vic. I think that's important for some
of our more-heated discussions too. Also essential for me is the ability
to use an e-mail or newsreader rather than a web page format -- so much
faster.
