Hey Guys and Gals,

I haven't been too active on this group, but I do enjoy reading the
posts that come across my desktop.

Having said that, I have a problem.

I'm working in repair at a rental house for production companies. We
rent out big lights. But I'm having problems with the 12kw PARs. The
bulbs are coming back with melted leads inside the bulb. The bulb is
HMI and I'm wondering if there is some kind of sign that indicates
manufactuer defect or misuse. I have checked the fixtures and ballasts
and they seem to be running within spec +/- 10%.

I have no experience with these lamps, but am looking at the
data *** now. The lamp uses a quartz arc tube inside what
must be a hard glass outer bulb. Where exactly are the
melted leads? Inside the quartz arc tube, or inside the
outer bulb but outside the quartz arc tube? If the latter,
is the melted portion near the pins on the outer bulb? The
reason I ask is that this lamp draws 75 amps. If the socket
or the pins do not make excellent electrical contact then
you can easily generate a lot of heat at the pins and this
could damage the lamp.

Anyway, has anyone else encountered problems with GE's CSR12000/SE/HR?
And if yes, how did you deal with the problem.

I know that it is a tough call, but these bulbs are costing us $2k a
piece.

Thanks alot folks.
