The PDF should work in both Adobe reader 4 & 5. At
www.uspto.gov the patents are presented in TIFF files. Or
you can go to http://free.patentfetcher.com and download
their copy in PDF format.
If there is a patent on this, I guess I won't be using it. If I
do any of this, I'd just do a simple transformer and simple ballast.
The patent is for some very specific implementations of
integrated transformer/inductor devices. The basic idea is
very old and certainly in the public domain. In fact, the
figures I pointed you to are old, prior art designs, not the
invention.
