There seem to be some column driver chips with higher resolution
already announced (or maybe even available?)

There have been 10+ bit chips announced and offered for at least five
years. But none have made it into commercially available RGB LCDs.

Given the nature of the business, everyone is waiting for the same
thing. Namely, a huge buyer that issues a purchase order for many
tens of thousands of screens per month for a good period of time. My
educated guess is that, if you order about a million modules they
might consider building them your way. Or, at least, if the market is
good for that many.
