I have been using a Vector Smart Charger 2/10/20/35 with manual
equalization control.
The reason the sulfation comes to mind is that when I looked inside the
plates seemed to be coated with little stringy things attached to the
plates. Not a lot, but enough to be noticeable. I did one
equalization ( the smart charger does it in a 24 hour cycle) and the
stringy things disappeared. To me the plates look coated as I don't
see any shiny metal. But then I don't know what I should be seeing or
what is normal.. I am presently doing another equalization and then
will run the draw down tests again.

I purposed pick this group as you all seem to know more about the
intricacies battery chemistry. But if all else fails I will post
problem to voltac group as you suggest.
No problem, but I hang out there too, and there's a lot more
experience with golf cart batteries in those newsgroups...
thing I keep hearing about is a "break in" period for new batteries and
that the battery has to go through so many cycles before it reaches
full capacity. And is the "break in" period what I am experiencing?
Maybe. If the batteries had some sulfation from their time in storage
it might take several cycles (or a long equalization) for them to come
back to full capacity.
What are you using for a battery charger?
