what is microbiology

I'm one way of the other confused about this topic "microbiology". i
think this topic is actually about smaller organisms. can you please
help better understand this topic cus i sometimes sit wondering about
how these organisms actually work and what are the advantages and
disadvantages of them to our health and society.
