Re: Seta@Home Classic

I set up a new linux box and saw that I couldn't download the classic client. Luckily I've already got an account and a copy of the client sitting around... I didn't care for BOINC last I looked at it, and it seems to be often down. Is this just my sentiment?

I would suggest more 'sentiment' than reality. Boinc is designed to accept the servers being 'offline' for a while. And you can attach to multiple projects so that no one server will stop you processing something of interest.

Don't forget that Berkeley are blazing a very new trail (and trial) with Boinc. Even through the worst of the development hiccups, this machine has never gone idle.

I've been running S@H since about May '99. Not sure I'll continue once the classic client is phased out, and I suspect the reason we apparently haven't found anything is that we spliced far too narrow a part of the spectrum too finely.

We have processed as much as possible given the best guesses possible and the resources available. We can broaden the search as time and resource and technology and science improve.

If you're happy with command line bashing, Boinc on linux works well. There's even optimised clients that can give a x2 speedup or so over the standard s@h2 client for Boinc.

The graphics are trailing a little. But hey, this is a new adventure and the opportunity is there for some hack to step in and fill the gap.
