Is it just my ISP or is anyone else having trouble getting
rec.windsurfing messages. I have not seen any new messages
since 9/12. (Although if I'm having trouble I may not
see any reply).

Craig.

It's just your ISP, I have about 20 new postings on mine since then. ISP
nntp servers are notorious for being neglected by their staff. That is,
if
your ISP still offers nntp. Some of the majors have dropped newsgroups
entirely. I always figured it was more of an irritant to them than a
benefit. And now that Google has offered up usenet to browser users the
entire experience has changed (degraded). Usenet has always been a mess,
but
it was "our" mess. Unless you have a paid usenet provider or find a good
free server don't expect any improvement. There are 'forums' for most
interests now, the trick is finding one that meets your needs.

Alan

Can someone also recommend a decent server for Usenet going forward?
Received notification from Comcast yesterday that later this month they will
discontinue making an nntp server available (actually giganews) as part of
their broadband service. Funny how that didn't come with a partial refund
in rates, huh?

They *did* have a link to giganews offers for inexpensive access, but I
don't want to sign up for a minimum 2 GB monthly service (at ~$100/year) to
peruse a couple of news groups a few times per month...

End of an era, IMHO
