Pete,
Here's a link to photos of what I did. It took 10 minutes of filing. Your
tail piece looks a bit older than mine, but perhaps you can get close to
what I did. See my explanations, included below each photo, for more info.http://public.fotki.com/shredbob/fiberspar-old-tail-/

Are you still interested in a better way to thread your old Fiberspar
mypiece. I've got a method that involves filing a groove or grooves in the
tail piece plastic that can do the trick. It has worked like a charm on
olderolder Fiberspar tail piece, and it is probably applicable to your even
canunit too with a bit of forethought. If you're interested post back and I
see about getting some photos online.
Probably "Yes".... pending a call to FiberSpar tomorrow. (the
Main Man for boom ends has been out for a few days)
If they don't offer a bolt-on solution, I'm up for some filing.

WOW!!... I remember that clew part... we used to buy them... hundreds
of them, but back them we were buying them out of Taiwan from Alex
Moday... famous for booms and boom components... good guy. I used to
sit around and dream up different ways to thread the thing. Even did
some machining to increase the function (I have been studying the
pictures that were posted... thanks!)... now I remember the
function... I dreamed up a way to lash little harken pulleys into an
integral pattern that turned the clew into a super low friction
adjustable outhaul part... albeit it expensive... the pulleys were
arranged so the clew of the sail could be pulled snug against the
clew. I think we took out the cleat and deepened the recess and added
a pulley in there... something like that... it was a long time ago,
but it worked.
