Re: Starboard footstrap insert fix

Roger,

Thanks for the prompt response. I've seen this stuff on the shelf, but
always considered it a half-ass fix for desperate times. However, if
RJ says it works, I'll give it a try.
The stripped screw was my fault - thick new strap, thick new strap
washer, pad foam wasn't yet compressed, and not enough downward
pressure for the first few turns of the screw. This stuff will
definitely go in the gear bag for Baja trip in five days...

Thx again and long time no see,

-Barry

Hi Barry,
There's a better, and much easier fix!
Check out this link on the Starboard forums:http://www.star-board.com/viewpage.php?page_id=21
Look down at the bottom of the page at "Repairing Damaged Footstrap
Inserts".
I've been able to repair a whole bunch of stripped footstrap screw
inserts and also vent plugs that are leaking
using these products, avaialable at your local auto parts or bearing
distributor's shops.
The inserts are continuous (AFAIK) so you could drill an adjcent hole
new hole (same size as the holes you've never
put a screw in) but the Permatex/Locktite Thread Restorer Kits do a
much better job with no risk of breaking out through
to the core of your board.
Hope this helps,
P.S. You should be able to view the link with out signing on, but the
sign on is easy and won't fill your mailbox or cause
any other probs that I'm aware of.
Customer service is still pretty important at Starboard!
